My students need this classroom set of Fish in a Tree for our reading class so that students can have a better understanding of students with learning disabilities.

My Students
The students I work with are hard working and have shown a love for literature. I have been amazed at the excitement my students have shown towards the books we read as a class as well as the ones they read independently. These students come from all sorts of home lives and socioeconomic situations.
When they are at school we are a whole other family setting where we work together, respect one another, and have each other's backs.
These kids amaze me each and every day.
My Project
My students have been requesting modern books to be added to our reading inventory. After reading the book Fish in a Tree, I immediately wanted to share it with my students. I believe this would be a great book to read as a class. The story of the book would help students better understand their peers who deal with learning disabilities. The book would facilitate conversations about how difficult and frustrating this can be for students, but also how a disability doesn't make a student different in a negative way.
My goal as a teacher is to instill acceptance and respect in my students and I feel this class set of Fish in a Tree would assist me in doing this.
All of the sixth grade students at my middle school would benefit from having the opportunity to read this book. Thank you for your consideration.
