Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

My kids are survivors. Many live in poverty and experience traumatic events early in life that affects their development both cognitively and emotionally. They are sweet kids who have families who love them but don't have a lot of the things they need.

My kids are fighters and are capable of great things.

My goal with my DonorsChoose page is to give them the tools to break the cycle of poverty they were born into. Won't you please help me?

My Project

Have you read how the public schools in Baltimore started teaching kids about meditation, and their behavior issues dropped significantly? If you haven't you should read the articlle.

Wouldn't it be amazing if our children learned how to control their emotions before they left elementary school?

That's our goal with this project! Help us purchase the supplies to start teaching our kids about meditation, mindfulness, and yoga!

This method has worked at schools with similar demographics to ours, so we want to follow their example and try a new approach to keep kids in school and cut suspensions and detentions.

In order to get this program off the ground, we need some supplies! We've requested 20 yoga mats to use during the lessons. We've also requested yoga books specifically designed to teach kids! These will help drive our curriculum for each session. There are also some books on mindfulness to supplement the yoga instruction; this is a great way for kids to center themselves wherever they may be.
