"Every child has a different learning style and pace. Each child is unique, not only capable of learning, but also capable of succeeding." -- Robert John Meehan
My classroom consists of students with diverse backgrounds and varying educational needs.
I am constantly reflecting on my teaching and modifying my instruction to best meet the needs of each of my students. A large number of my students are reading below grade level. My goal as a teacher is to encourage the growth of every student, for each of them to see the potential I see in them, and to achieve goals they once thought were impossible. I want my students to take pride in hard work, seek pride in their achievements, and to be eager to learn and grow together in my classroom every single day.
My Project
Classroom community is highly valued in my 4th grade classroom. My students enjoy learning cooperatively, sharing ideas, and collaborating with one and another and me as their guide. Sharing resources and materials together is another way to build our classroom community. These shelves will allow the students to share school supplies together, and it will help them to more effectively work together in small groups due to the fact their needed materials will be easily accessible. These shelves will also allow the students to be more organized, which will make their days of learning more productive. Students need organization and structure in order to be successful. All these reasons together will allow the classroom to be better managed, which in the long run will make for a more smoothly run learning environment.
It is absolutely vital for students to learn in an environment that is well managed and organized.
After finishing up my first year of teaching, I have realized that organization is a key skill that my fourth grade students need to learn. Students who are disorganized and cannot find the materials they need for each part of the school day have a difficult time being ready to learn, which takes away precious productive learning time.
