Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Being at our school for several years, I have gotten the chance to really get to know many of the students in the school, including those I have never taught. Many of them have gone through seriously adverse situations and misfortunes that impact their everyday life, especially their education. I am amazed at how resilient they can be, and how they push through to the best of their abilities regardless of hardships that affect them. Being a fifth-grade teacher has shown me how fast some students have to mature. I have taught their younger siblings in previous years (coming up from kindergarten and first grade) and see how they take care of their family. Each child that I have gotten to know at this school has my heart.
I want nothing but the best for all of these students, and that includes giving them hands-on experiences that will be memorable to them.
My students need to be able to feel like school isn't another one of their draining duties or work. I want all of them to enjoy school and look forward to each day in my class, whether in person or virtually. They truly deserve the best!
My Project
Distance learning as not been easy, but seeing my students' faces daily makes everyday worth sitting at a laptop for. However, sitting at the laptop all day has caused me back problems and has left me with a lack of energy by the end of the day. I want to shake that feeling because my students deserve a teacher who is ready and energized each and everyday they come into our meeting.
A standing desk would be the saving grace for the midday slumps I get while remote teaching.
It will make for such an easy switch and a change of scenery for my students and me.
The gift card for Teachers Pay Teachers will also aid with planning, because no teacher should have to reinvent the wheel when there are so many well-made resources out there! We are going to be teaching and learning from home for a while, and I want to be geared up for the long-run!
