Mrs. DeLaTorre from Azusa CA is requesting Books through DonorsChoose, the #1 classroom funding site for teachers.

Teaching Equal Rights for Diverse Students is Essential!

My students need materials to assist them in learning about civil rights and diversity, including instruments from around the world, a Multicultural Big Book Set and 2 sets of biographies.

  • $691 goal

Hooray! This project is fully funded

My Students

Understanding and knowing today what it was like to live with boundaries based upon the color of your skin is very difficult for children to understand and grasp and with help, support, and funding of this project will allow students to learn, grow, and understand that equality is essential today.

The students are grades K-5, and attend a public school.

The students visit my classroom for reading intervention programs. Often they are in small groups that allow students to grasp, talk, discuss, and have a hands on experience with literature at their individual level (often below grade level standards).

My Project

The materials I have requested include: musical instruments of different cultures, music from different cultures, literature books based upon multicultural stories, and biographies of people who were involved in changing our world's history. The materials listed above will allow students who visit the reading intervention room to have a hands-on experience, a small group setting in reading, discussing, sharing, and learning of our world's changes for the better and the acceptance of how equality and diversity is positive overall.

This project will allow students to learn, grow, share, have a hands-on experience in Civil Rights and Diversity.

Today in society there is no black and white, and the changes that have been made in our world to allow equality are sometimes overlooked and forgotten. Children today need to learn from what history gave us, and learning is the key to all experiences.
