This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I teach English as a New Language to 6th, 7th and 8th graders. My students range from newcomers to the US, and students who have been here for several years. The picture book, "My Shoes and I" will be used with my 6th grade newcomers. They are quickly learning the English language, and I like to supplement their language lessons with literacy units. Our 1st literacy unit is based on immigration-related picture books. These types of books resonate with my English language learners because they have all recently immigrated to the US. Placing this book into the hands of my students will motivate them to read the book and explore words/ideas that are new to them. Thank you for helping my students develop their English and literacy skills.
