Smile and Say Cheese! No really say "ECONOMICS!" Teaching economics through students using cameras to capture important economic vocabulary in the real world will engage students as they identify economics in their daily lives.
My school is in a progressively growing rural community with total enrollment in Kindergarten through 5th grade of a little over 550 students.
The town population is approximately 66,881, with 17 elementary schools in the district. The diversity at our school comes from the economic levels with approximately 45% of our students receiving free and reduced lunches. I teach in a self-contained fourth grade class. I have twenty-eight students. There are a total of four fourth grade teachers at my elementary school. I teach students with a wide range of learning abilities.
My Project
The students will benefit from this activity by gaining the knowledge of economic vocabulary and they will see vocabulary come to life through real life experiences. Students will be taught to identify economics in everyday activities and be able to transfer their knowledge to other subject areas. Students will gain the awareness of how economics is in everything we do and that every decision has a cost. Students will take turns taking the digital camera around school and home to identify economics in their world.
Your donation will make a difference in my class by providing my students with digital cameras that will be used to capture economics in their world.
This will help engage my students in skills that will prepare them to be successful in a global economy. Using different types of technology, they will share what they know with other students in our school!
