Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach in a public school in a growing community.

The diversity at our school comes from the economic levels and our English as a second language learners.

My school has an enrollment in kindergarten through 5th grade of a little over 650 students. The town population is around 70,000, with 18 elementary schools in the district. I teach in a self-contained second grade class. I have 25 students. I teach students with a wide range of learning abilities. I have 10 Caucasian, 12 Latino, two Marshallese, and one African American student.

My Project

There are many wonderful books available that help teachers teach important economic concepts to elementary students. My goal is to introduce many different vocabulary words, such as goods, services, needs, wants, opportunity cost, interdependence, capital resources, human resources, and natural resources.

The Economics Arkansas website has many wonderful lesson plans and activities available that teach students important economic topics.

Many of the books that I have requested are from lessons on their website. The students will benefit from these lessons by gaining the knowledge of economic vocabulary, and they will see the vocabulary come to life through picture books. Students will gain awareness of how economics affects everything around them, and they will learn that every decision has a cost. Unfortunately, economic concepts are not always taught in the home. Teachers are responsible for preparing the students for the future.
