My Students

I teach English as a second language to students in grades K-5 who represent over 13 different native languages. The school where I teach is located in the city of New Castle, which is small city that is home to a diverse population. My school is a Title I school where every single student receives a free breakfast and lunch each day.

Our school's mission focuses on creating leaders in our students to empower them to be successful in and out of the classroom!

My personal mission emphasizes giving my English learners a powerful voice in an environment that is culturally sensitive and conducive to learning.

My Project

I am an ESL teacher in the Colonial School District in New Castle, DE. I am currently building my classroom library with multicultural texts that encourage students to be proud of who they are and of their families' native countries. Now, my goal is to build upon the library with materials that support cultural diversity.

I am inspired to create a culturally sensitive classroom by integrating costumes, instruments, toy foods, realia, and dolls from around the world to create an environment that welcomes students from all over the globe!

Second language learning is already fun and engaging, but my students will love having props to support all of the wonderful things they are learning about other countries and cultures!
