Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
This rug will be used everyday to meet as a whole group to teach and promote compassion and promote empathy through books, music and activities.
My goal is to have my students meet each day on the classroom rug as they listen to books, learn songs and do group activities that teach empathy and compassion towards others.
My students will learn to see the world through the eyes of another person
by reading books such as "The Way I Feel" by Janan Cain which identifies emotions as well as those of their peers. Singing the song "It's Easy to Be Kind" by Wiz Kiddoz, will help spread the message that a simple smile and hug makes a difference when a friend is feeling down.
My students will learn to work toward alleviating suffering in others by participating in activities that include drawing pictures and making cards that focus on a friend who is feeling sad or upset. We will meet at the rug where students will take turns sharing what they made and saying something kind to help the friend who is feeling sad or upset.
I will measure success in my students’ understanding of compassion by
posting a chart with all of the student's names and they will be able to place a daily sticker next to their own name when someone has been kind to them.
