Teaching Basics With Boomwhackers!

Help me give my students Boomwhackers to help with the early stages of making music and reading music.

My Students

My students are a great group of children with a deep love for music.

At our school, the students have not had a full time music teacher until this school year.

The students are so excited and cannot wait to see what they will be able to accomplish.

They value the opportunity to participate and learn, and will achieve great things! This love for learning has me excited to create more complex lessons with more instruments and materials! I am looking forward to what this year will bring.

My Project

Boomwhackers are a very useful tool in the elementary music classroom! They help teach the early stages of reading and making music. They are color coded to make it easier for the kids to visually connect to what they are experiencing aurally. Kinesthetically, the students will physically be "whacking" the Boomwhacker on their hands (as if they are clapping). Getting Boomwhackers into the student's hands at an early age allows them to think critically, evaluating their performances and questioning, "What if we combine this color B. whacker with this other color B. whacker?" Students also are encouraged to work together with their classmates, creating their own songs/combinations, then performing their work for classmates, teachers, parents, and the community.

Being provided with these Boomwhackers, my students would be given more opportunities to create, respond, understand, and evaluate music.

They could work together to create a finished product. My students will learn music fundamentals that they will carry with them for the rest of their lives. Think back to when you were a child; what could be cooler than having a brand new, colorful instrument to make music with?
