My Students
I am an Arabic teacher who works with students across various grade levels. We just found out that our school year will start remotely and my students need resources to help support this mode of learning.
Students, regardless of their cultural background, where they live, or which school they attend, should be given access to the resources needed to make learning a success.
I work in a school with a very high low-income student population in Chicago, Illinois. Many of my students have very limited resources available to them and I am constantly seeking ways to compensate for this by giving them access to the tools that they need to make their learning productive and successful.
My Project
Transitioning to remote learning has been a challenge for students, parents, and teachers. In many cases, students and teachers do not have the necessary tools and resources at home in order for them to fully teach, attend, and engage in distance learning. Often times, the materials needed are technology-based and because of the cost, educators and families are not able to acquire them independently. This is where you come in.
With your donation, you can help provide me with a touchscreen computer that will be used to support online instruction of Arabic as a foreign language.
With this tool, I can model how Arabic is written, communicate with my students in written form in real-time, and visually model vocabulary for students by writing directly on the screen that I am presenting to them. This is a critical aspect of instruction that has been missing. When using the TPRS method of teaching, I work with students to brainstorm a narrative in the target language of Arabic. I will use the touchscreen computer and stylus to write down the story in real-time for students so they can see their ideas come to life. Please support this critical part of my instruction. Students need immediate feedback and guidance that this teaching tool will provide-please make this a possibility!
