Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Many of my students are from diverse backgrounds. They depend on whatever reading materials that is provided at school. They come from low-income families and their experiences outside of their community are limited. Despite the hardships they are facing with school being closed, they are ready and willing learners.

My kiddos are very creative and eager about learning.

They would definitely benefit from an array of multicultural classroom books to help increase their self-esteem and a sense of belonging. Since April, my students are barely learning at home. This presents a challenge, as most of my students do not have access to diverse reading books that reflects who they are and cultural diversity .

My Project

Please help me give my young learners diverse books that represents all students and cultures in my classroom. I believe incorporating literature that shows variety of characters and cultures all year long will foster a positive sense of self and for others. Talking to young kids about racial injustice is not easy but books that reflects diversity can help spark conversations about race, justice, and empathy

Having a multicultural book display so that children can choose to read from will help create a world that nurtures love and compassion.

Moreover, a mobile easel is going to allow me to read diverse books as we have sensitive conversations and writing their thought or ideas. When student responses are validated, it promotes a sense of self and for others. As a Latina teacher myself, I have had a few good and honest conversations about racism at work as a way of offering opportunities for learning, growth, and progress. Please help make this project achievable.
