This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
"I can't find my books!" is a common phrase I hear each day as we begin our Reading block. Book Buddy Bags are our solution! Small group instruction is also key to successful writers, and the dry erase material will help maximize our plans to become great authors at a high-poverty Colorado school.
My second graders are very enthusiastic learners from a high poverty area of Colorado.
We are a newer school that is still in need of some basic classroom supplies that will help us better organize our classroom and enrich our reading and writing so we can therefore spend more of our time learning. My students have truly fallen in love with reading and frequently request to take books from the classroom home and the book bags will make this easier. My students are passionate about leaving second grade on the correct reading level. A key to making that happen is practicing their fluency. During small group instruction we practice reading with a timer. They became so motivated that they want more opportunities to practice independently with their own sand timers. Despite any struggles they have at home, they come to school each morning ready to take their job as students very serious. Due to a lack of funding, we aren't able to get basic resources. We need your help!
My Project
I have requested a variety of supplies that we need to succeed. We need Book Bags, Wipe Off Sentence Strips, Dry Erase Sheet Rolls and Self Sticking Sheets, Sand Timers, Labeling Pockets, hallway passes, and a set of jumbo coins. The book bags will provide a safe place for students to keep their books so they can bring reading home with them. Writing complete sentences is an important milestone in second grade, and the wipe off sentence strips are just what we need to help master this! Students in second grade often become very excited about learning and will "blurt" out answers. The dry erase sheets will give each student a chance to answer problems independently on their own time, and then show me when they are done. This will help maximize each student's learning. Money is also an important concept for second graders to learn, and the jumbo coin set will provide the visual that many Second Language Learners need. The labeling pockets will create a visual way to label where supplies are.
We need your support to make this happen.
Your generosity will encourage reading growth, build a foundation with money skills, and help our classroom be a visually organized place for all learners. Thank you for your help!
