Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Have you heard of the website "Teachers Pay Teachers?" This website has been a lifesaver for me as I am able to purchase materials created by fellow professionals that specifically target the needs of my students! My students have loved the lesson plans I've bought because they are engaging and direct
My students attend a Title 1 school and have a variety of speech & language disorders.
Communication is difficult for them whether it is receptively or expressively, but that does not hinder them from wanting to interact with their peers in class and participate in oral discussions.
My students are first-generation immigrants with limited access to school supplies/resources. Over 95% of the students I work with come from Spanish speaking families. The challenge with this has been finding Spanish/English materials that I can send home to have parent involvement to increase accuracy of the objectives we are targeting. The parents want to help, but have limited English proficiency.
Since we are at a title 1 school, we do not have a laminator nor access to color ink.
My Project
I have turned to Teachers Pay Teachers to find lesson plans that specifically target speech and language therapy. I have been able to find bilingual materials that I send as homework or carryover practice. Every group of students I work with has a range of goals that I need to target. The lesson plans I purchase help me to meet my students needs while making learning engaging and hands-on.
Having access to a color printer I am able to print the lesson plans and laminating the lesson plans allows for durability and multiple use. Sure I can purchase dozens of books and make copies of the worksheets, but my students made greater progress last year using the lesson plans I purchased as they were directed towards their needs. The activities are leveled which makes it easier for majority of the students. Working in groups, some students are behind one grade level and others are behind a few grade levels. By printing these leveled activities, I can engage the entire group!
My students have articulation, comprehension, social skills, syntax, and many other goals that we focus in group.
Giving them access to speech and language therapy lesson plans gives them the ability to work on their needs more effectively. My students can target their range of goals at the level that they are functioning at by using the materials created by fellow colleagues. We can only do this if we have access to printing the lesson plans and laminating the sheets for continuous work.
