Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are eager to learn but have suffered an incredibly sad year. First, our school was damaged by the Dallas tornadoes and we had to move to a gymnasium across town. Although we are back in our building (or were back before Covid), our air and heat did not work for months and several students were displaced. A few months later, an apartment fire displaced even more students and in January, a favorite teacher died of a heart attack.
As you can see, these kids have been through the wringer even before Covid-19.
This virus has meant the end of the school year in the building and has been very difficult for the kids with no internet. Our district is doing everything we can to get hotspots, and only very creative and graphic lessons are getting any attention. I want to end the school year strong and need your help.
My Project
As a Gifted and Talented teacher, I have 6 different lesson plans I have to create each day. That is an incredible task; I promise you. Even Gifted students are on different levels, so the burden is real. I am also the only teacher on campus that teaches the Gifted and Talented so I have no one to collaborate with, and I rarely a week goes by that I don't need help.
It is getting very difficult to plan vivid, fun activities that will keep my students on task and eager to do the work during this odd time of At-Home Learning.
TeachersPayTeachers has various options for me that will motivate my students at home to open the link and do the work. I will also be able to use these materials when we go back to the classroom, which is double the resources. My students love when new, colorful, graphic materials are assigned. Those are the pages I get back to grade. I wish I were more technical and creative in designing resources, but I am not. Not to worry! Other teachers are!
Using Teachers Pay Teachers is an amazing resource that can help me be able to utilize my time better and teach with resources that are dependable and rigorous. I have used them for years, but they are just now available on DonorsChoose. What a blessing to teachers everywhere!
Having the ability to go and see what other teachers have created and been successful using has made my lesson planning so much more fruitful and the resources are much more graphic than anything I could ever come up with on my own.
