Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I have been teaching for 7 years, and I still love what I do. Watching my children grown is an amazing journey that I get to repeat year after year. My students are amazing students, but statistically, they are at a great risk of not seeing educational success once they leave elementary school. They are from low-income housing or in neighboring shelters, with great educational needs and even greater emotional challenges day in and day out.

I'm not just a teacher, but I am also a team leader, responsible for coordinating not only my learning and growth, but the learning and growth of my teammates.

I work with them to ensure that each classroom is a place where students can learn, grown and be emotionally supported.

My Project

While my students will not be using these materials directly, they will have a teacher who is stronger at teaching them the skills they need to be successful. This iPad pro is the gateway to my professional learning. By being able to use it to collect a digital library of professional texts and videos, my learning can occur without disrupting the learning of my children. There will not be as much of a need to leave the building for training as many trainings are now available online.

Since the 21st century continues to define itself as a technological age of self-teaching and growth, this project will have a MAJOR impact on the way I am learning, and in turn, teaching my students.

This iPad will also allow me the opportunity to not only learn, but to put the learning into practice by being able to craft strong lessons that will be presented to my students. I will be able to take my own learnings and support learning independence in whole group, small group and 1:1 conferences.

More than 75% of my classroom are performing below grade level expectations. They need consistent and cohesive instruction that can only occur when I am with them. This iPad will lessen the amount of time I am away from them for my own personal learning.

The ever growing working fields demand individuals who are able to navigate whatever routes are placed before them. My project will surely make a difference by helping me encourage my students to believe in themselves as learners. If the teacher is also learning, then learning must be important!
