My students have experienced a rough year. Some lost everything through Hurricane Harvey. This is the safest place they have to come everyday. They come from all different kinds of backgrounds and tend to be challenging. We've had such a rough start to our year and we've been working together to finish strong. One thing I can say is my students are resilient and they've definitely taught me some really valuable things this year. We've made the best out of an unfortunate situation.
I've spend the year taking care of my students and making sure they are OK with everything that has happened during Hurricane Harvey. I've come to school running on little to no sleep worrying about if my students are OK and if they need anything that I might not be providing for them. I've stay after school, come in early and used my conference periods to make sure my students are OK. In the process of making sure they're adjusting to our new definition of norm I forgot to check on myself and make sure I was doing alright. I have some students that are diabetic or have other health needs and a small fridge would be a great place where I can store bottled water for my students if they might need it. I can also store a small snack for them as well depending on what that snack might be. I've seen my kids have episodes which is what is prompting me to be more proactive about getting something that would be beneficial to our room as a hole. Where I am located in the building we are on the top floor and the nurses office is downstairs. In Texas it can be easy for my students to get overheated. It would be great to be able to off them a cold bottled of water.
