Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

We are a diverse group of young children ages 3-5 years. 100% of our preschool aged children qualifies for a scholarship to receive high quality early childhood education. 100% of our students are also eligible to receive free or reduced lunch. We are always interested in observing, exploring and questioning about the world around us.

Our play-based program and philosophy is to follow the lead of the child.

As facilitators we hone in on student interests to guide instruction. Part of high quality early childhood classrooms is to provide experiences for children to learn using engaging materials as well as the environment. One way to extend these learning opportunities is by participating in field trips. Many of the field trips we attend are free such as walking to the local grocery store, or walking to the mailbox to mail letters. Some of the children have never had the opportunity to experience any new opportunities such as these and many have never attended a developmentally appropriate educational opportunity such as attending the zoo or museum due to socioeconomic status. We look forward to more learning opportunities that take place outside of the classroom!

My Project

If our project is funded we will create class books to promote literacy and create a dramatic play zoo to encourage critical thinking verbalize ideas and concepts and act out real life situations. We will also do a literacy study on both fiction and non-fiction books to assess prior knowledge and use the data to facilitate instruction. Many of these children will create memories and learn many skills important to animal life, life science and nature. We would also love to stress and expose our children to become environmentalists and encourage them to take pride in conserving the community around them. Many science, Math and Literacy opportunities will spark based on the information and knowledge we gain from attending the field trip.
