Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
I am a reading specialist at a Title I school. I work with students in grades K through six that are struggling with reading. Many of the students I work with come from low-income families.
All students benefit from programs with research-based multi-sensory instruction, like Fundations.
As a Reading Specialist, I support classroom teachers with Fundations implementation and provide additional support for students as needed. The Fundations Virtual Conference will discuss current trends and topics in reading, blended with practical applications to the implementation of Fundations in grades K-3. I will be able to immediately apply tips and techniques learned from the conference to my classroom.
My goal is to support our teachers to implement the best Tier 1 instruction to close the reading gap and provide intervention as necessary. It has been so rewarding to watch a student go from not knowing any letters to sounding out their first word.
As a parent of a child with Dyslexia, I know the importance of having a teacher that understands multi-sensory instruction and is current on research and legislation. I want all students to receive the support they need and experience the same success that my daughter did.
