This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My classroom is located in Burien, Washington at a Title I school. We have nearly 600 students, and 81% of our students qualify for free or reduced-price meals. 41.7% of students are considered transitional bilingual.

Our students are thoughtful, kind, curious, and eager to learn.

The families at our school want their children to succeed and work hard to provide for their families. The staff at our school are committed to serving the community and creating positive change in the education system.

My Project

This school year, I have been compiling a list of texts that were recommended by my fellow teachers. This past October, I was fortunate enough to travel alongside my colleagues and principal to New Mexico for La Cosecha Dual Language Conference. At the conference, I was able to meet and learn from experienced teachers who have been teaching in English and Spanish for years. They recommended Tucker Signing Strategies for Reading, and Teaching Reading Sourcebook. They said these professional learning texts helped them bring their literacy instruction to the next level! The other two texts were recommended by teachers in my building.

I want to continue to grow as an educator, and prepare myself to teach as a part of a dual language program.

In order to do so, I need to read high-quality texts!
