Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
One of the resource books I would like funded is a research-based guide to effective reading instruction. The Teaching Reading Sourcebook, will support me in bridging the gap between evidence-based reading research and actionable instructional strategies that are realistic and practical. The authors have organized this handbook according to the elements of explicit instruction (what? why? when? and how?).
This library of teacher reference/resource books/material will support my practice and in turn will impact my students' literacy skillset.
As a teacher, I am always learning. Some of these books I have used by borrowing them from colleagues, but I would like my own copy as I reference them at least once a week during my planning.
I also want to incorporate the joy or reading by reading out loud to my students during the first two days of getting to know each other as I get different groups at every six-week interval. The Sir Cumference books are fun and make connections to Math, so it supports my students by realizing that Math is everywhere and while it may be a bit complex, mathematical concepts can be approached with literature.
