Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
I have chosen materials including markers and pencils as these are materials that let students access daily work and participation. The markers also help to facilitate interactive and fun class reviews of content that don't rely on technology but allow for immediate feedback from the teacher. The pointers allow for the use of the number line that borders the room and goes all the way to 120 which is important for middle school math students, and I can use this to demonstrate the number changing as we work through a problem such as why a negative minus a positive results in an even more negative number. The calculators allow students the ability to do calculations required in middle school that can't be done by hand such as a question asking you to use the pi button and then round your final answer. While most students have laptops, this allows for students whose devices are broken to participate and students who struggle with managing multiple tabs. The multiplication chart is a more interactive version of the laminated charts we have and it goes to much higher values. This allows for students to physically see the skip counting process as they push each value to arrive at their answers and see how the multiplication is just repeated addition. Finally, the magnetic coordinate plane is a multipurpose tool for collaborative class work. It allows for two large graphs to be done at the same time using the smart board as well. It can also be used as 4 separate graphs making 5 with the smart board for gallery walks of students' graphs where they can easily adjust their answers without ripping graph paper that can be difficult to erase on and bleeds permanent marker through to the walls or board.
