My students need a method in which they can be assessed. All of them are non verbal and have very poor motor skills. Traditional methods of assessment can not measure my students' academic progress.

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are all between the ages of 3-5. They have all been diagnosed with cognitive disabilities and are all a part of the same community I live in. They attend the same elementary school I attended as a child and love coming to school everyday to learn despite the many challenges they face. They are full of love and joy and spread kindness to everyone they meet.

My students are different, however they are not less.

They have beautiful minds that require a lot of patience and nurturing in order for them to fulfill their potential.

My Project

Students learn in a variety of ways. Some are visual learners, some auditory, and others are tactile. Most of us teachers figure out our student's method of learning by observations, work samples, and verbal and written testing. What happens when you simply cannot assess and/or teach a student with these traditional methods independently?

99% of my students have Autism.

They are non verbal, cannot produce written work samples, and do not have enough hand strength to manipulate concrete objects. They are adjusting to structure in a school setting and need visual aids in the form of technology for instruction and assessment.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
