My Students

I currently work with 15 individuals with a variety of disabilities ranging from reading, writing, and math learning challenges to Dyslexia, Autism, Speech and Language difficulties, and intellectual deficits both within the general education setting and in a resource setting large group, small group, and one on one on a daily basis. Each student receives individualized instruction based upon their unique learning style. We practice using a variety of learning techniques and try to incorporate as much technology and motivating activities as possible. The students enjoy using multi sensory approaches and computer based programs and activities daily. Many of their favorite programs are Wilson, Prodigy, and Brain pop and a variety of other hands on activities. You can find my student constantly participating in activities moving around the classroom and incorporating some kind of sensory relating activity to keep them engaged and motivated at all time. They enjoy working for bookworms (gummy worms) and building up their stamina during independent reading time. They also enjoy answering brain pop questions for smarty pant answers. We are a rigorous, highly motivated, inspired group of individuals who love to learn and engage.

My Project

In the twenty first century, we are centered around technology. It has become an essential part of our everyday lives and more importantly it has become a focal point in the classroom as well. Our world in many ways, is rapidly and continuously growing and developing in one way or another. Especially in the education world whether it be a new reading technique, new math program, or a different standardized assessment. New curriculums and assessments are constantly being updated and created to improve the success of the students we teach and at times, it can be hard and overwhelming for the teachers to keep up.

We work with individuals who are unique and learn on all different levels with various capabilities and talents.

Each student has various strengthens and challenges that as educators we must adapt to and make modifications and accommodations to. We must adapt to each learning style and motivate them with the most current and up to date instruction. With all of this, we must constantly be on our toes with the newest technology, instruction techniques, materials, and resources.

Our ultimate goal and responsibility as educators is to be able to provide our students with the tools and resources they need in order to be the most successful, independent, motivated students so that they can contribute to our society in a positive manor. In order to do this, it is our professional and educational obligation to provide the most current, recent, and updated, curriculum to our students in order for them to be as successful as possible. With that said, through my attendance at this conference, I will be able to become a better educator by being up to date on the most recent scientifically research based instruction strategies to teach to my students.
