This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Most (90%) of our wonderful students live below or near the poverty line. About 60% of our students are learning English in school. Sometimes, our school struggles to get the resources we need to teach and care for our incredible students. This makes the job of a school even more important.
Many students we teach experience poverty, but that's just where they are starting.
Our students love to create art and read. They write computer codes and even perform Shakespeare. They have big dreams, but they need to work hard now. Help them reach for those dreams!
My Project
A big part of growing up is learning how to treat others and how to deal with difficult situations. Our schools and our classrooms should help teach kids these important skills.
With your help we can do just that-- by sending my students a HUGE box of books about empathy, understanding your feelings, and standing up for others.
Kids will get to read stories about characters that struggle with the same things they struggle with like bullying, name calling, and creating strong friendships. It is so important to teach kids explicitly how to show kindness and empathy. Not only will kids love these stories, but the books you send us will be powerful teaching tools!
