My Students
I am the lucky teacher of six students with autism. My classroom is filled with laughter, hard work and lots of love. The children in my classroom are learning skills each day to enable them to become more independent and well rounded individuals.
My six students with autism are an incredible bunch.
They laugh, smile, communicate with one another as best as they can and (usually) try their hardest. My students are loving, super funny and very capable individuals. My school strives to increase independence for our students through our instruction. Whether it's having our students "pay" for foods they want during snack and mealtimes or teaching them to how to read difficult words and comprehend stories. I strive daily to create the perfect learning environment in my classroom and know with the help of technology I can make my classroom an even more perfect place for my students!
My Project
My students are learning to read both fiction and non-fiction books. They are writing paragraphs to tell their own stories. My students are learning how to follow a recipe and how to tie their shoes. My fourth and fifth graders have autism and work each day to become more and more independent. My students need to improve their technological skills since technology is such an important part of our society today. I want my students to become fluent at using a computer to find information that they need like phone numbers or directions. I want them to use an iPad with case to take pictures, record videos, make books and enjoy leisure time on a device like so many other children their age! Adding this technology to my classroom will bring another dimension to my instruction while giving my students a chance to learn many new skills that will further their independence.
My students' lives will certainly be changed from having access to technology just like their typically developing peers do.
My students are extremely capable of learning, succeeding and becoming independent individuals and I know the fusion of technology will provide them with many valuable skills. My students will be excited and thrilled each day to work on the desktop computer and to use the iPad to video themselves and their peers and also practice their math and literacy skills.
