This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Most of my students are Special Education students who lack social and emotional skills. Many are autistic or have behavioral and mental health diagnoses.
A majority of my students are part of a vulnerable population and suffer from homelessness, mental health issues, domestic violence and are also in and out of foster homes.
My school provides them with a safe haven where they can express their wants and needs not only through classwork but also through counseling.
We love and support our children.
My Project
The tablets will be used to provide both general education and I.E.P students with a chance to step away from traditional teaching and step into the world of learning and living through technology. Many of these children are aware of technology but do not have immediate access to it. When they are allowed to work through technology most of my students bloom with excitement and interest. The cases and screen savers will be used to protect the devices while the label maker will be to separate the tablets by grade level.
This will give them a chance to interact and experience through something they are familiar with that they can use to continue to learn and to also express themselves through different counseling and related services apps.
These are beneficial devices that my students have been asking for. I want them to see that the love and support they receive from school staff also extends to other people in the world. I'm working on making the Social Work office and many classrooms safe, supportive, and accessible spaces for our children to learn and grow.
