This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are eighth graders at a predominantly African American middle school in St. Louis, Missouri. Most of my students are below their grade level in reading. Many have also struggled with reading & writing in the past and I want each student to feel successful. I can do this by getting them excited about learning and engaging them in many amazing activities, and allowing them to earn individual and class incentives.
My students are eager to learn, grow, and improve their reading and writing abilities.
We are working hard to build a culture of reading and learning, and having great, engaging resources is key to this culture.
My Project
This is part two of an earlier project that will continue to allow me to provide incentives for my students. We have many goals this year to work on our reading scores and our behavior, and they loved getting to pick a treat when they make improvements or meet a goal. Students get to choose from a tasty snack or a terrific treat or prize when they grow and meet goals.
My 8th graders respond positively to tangible incentives and rewards, and are eager to grow as a result.
Students will be more likely to continue to set and meet goals when they receive positive reinforcements. I want to continue to reward students who are consistently making the right choices behaviorally and making major improvements with their reading goals.
