My Students

Learning is not about just memorizing facts of events. It is about teaching them to learn from the past. We must give every student the ability to learn and succeed.

Our students face many multiple challenges. Some of our students are impacted by difficulties such as homelessness and military deployments. Helping them rise up and be the best they can be is my job. I want them to reach for the moon in all that they do so that they always land among the stars.

My Project

If there is one thing teenagers can agree upon, it is that they love snacks. In high school, I am always asked, "Do you have any snacks?" What better way to help them learn than by offering them a tasty snack!

Financial literacy is imperative in high school classes.

These students are getting ready to enter the "real" world, where they will need to learn about budgets and credit. Our task is to prepare them to become successful members of this adult community.

What does popcorn have to do with financial literacy? A popping lot!. You see, by offering a service or product in the classroom, we are showing the supply and demand. Some days, the supply may be great such as movie day. On other days where it is hot, a salty treat may not sit well with students decreasing our demand. Expand upon this, and students can learn what spices are favored by their classmates. Tracking this data, they can learn the micro and macroeconomics of a successful treat within their classroom. As they advance their studies into financial literacy students will be able to plot and calculate supply and demand shifts through graphing. They will be able to see what spice is a big hit, and which one falls short of the mark. This will help our young entrepreneurs understand and adapt to the market around them.
