Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My elementary school is a wonderfully diverse school. Out of our 1,300 students, 66% are Hispanic and 29% are English Language Learners.

Throughout the year students arrive from countries such as Mexico, Guatemala, Honduras, and Colombia.

They have to acclimate quickly to the language, culture, and traditions of the United States. While being overwhelmed with their new life, it is important that they have access to books that they can read in their native language.

This project will allow students the opportunity and comfort of reading books in a language they already know. Because students are able to check the books out in the library, they can read them at home with an adult who speaks the same language. Additionally, allowing students to read in Spanish gives them an opportunity to learn reading skills instead of merely trying to figure out the language in an English text.

Please help our students have a small taste of home by providing them with books in Spanish to read!
