Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach 14 active special education students in a 5th-8th grade self-contained Special Education classroom. They are amazing and never give up. They are very very active and have a difficult time staying focused on tasks. They learn through hands-on activities.

The students in my classroom have a wide range of special educational needs which impacts their ability to remember and retain information learned.

Many of my students struggle with speech/language and academic areas. My school is multi-cultural and considered economically disadvantaged, which has earned our school a Title l status. My students have the same dreams as students in more advantaged areas. Due to financial hardship, they are limited. My goal is to provide my students with materials to create task boxes.

My Project

All of my students want to be successful in completing tasks. The materials will be used to create functional life skills task boxes for my students. Task boxes will benefit our students in many ways. First, they allow our students to establish independence while reinforcing the use of a visual schedules. Second, we are able to teach important life skills through task boxes; folding, sorting, organization, and assembly. Finally, they provide a structured routine that many of our student thrive off of and feel successful and valuable when completing. The containers and baskets will be used to organize the materials in the task boxes.

The colored printer, ink and cardstock will be used to create visual schedules for the task boxes.

The personal laminator and laminating sheets will be used to laminate the visual schedules to ensure that they last longer.
