My Students

“The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you'll go.” Dr. Seuss

My students come with various learning disabilities.

Their disabilities range from Autism, Asperger's, Speech & Language, FAS, TBI, ADHD, and Memory; however, they are the hardest working students I've ever had. Even when they begin to lose focus they're always trying their best. My students come from low economic households. Our school is a Title I school, where most students receive free school lunch.

We do not have the resources to provide all necessary materials, and it is difficult for their parents at times to send in their child's school supplies. I strive each day to make a difference in my students' lives and tell them how much I believe in them and how the world is a better place because they are in it!

My Project

Special needs students learn best through targeted differentiation using small group instruction. Our class desperately needs this chart stand, so that we can have a dedicated area to provide students with the differentiation they need to succeed. These stands will allow for storage of various materials so that every learner can be reached. It will also allow for each student to have a private learning environment so that they can focus during their targeted instruction. The pocket chart stand and the pocket chart will allow me to teach the Wilson Reading Program, which is where the students learn fluent decoding and encoding skills to the level of mastery. From the beginning steps of the program, students receive instruction in phonemic awareness, decoding and word study, sight word recognition, spelling, fluency, vocabulary, oral expressive language development, and comprehension.

This project will improve my classroom because many of my students need differentiation during targeted small group instruction in order to be successful.

Students will be able to improve their confidence as they learn topics at their own ability level. Having a dedicated area will make transitions smoother, and differentiated materials will be readily available.
