My students need Hokki stools and stability cushions to help them meet the target of moving for 60 minutes or more each day!

My Students

My students are an energetic and enthusiastic group of learners. They are second graders in an elementary school located in a major metropolitan area of Washington state. They come from diverse backgrounds both culturally and socioeconomically, though our school does have a high level of students who qualify for either free or reduced priced lunch. Despite the challenges that many of them may face, my students come to school each day eager to learn and embrace the challenges of the day.

My Project

My students have told me that they can focus better on their work when they can move around. The materials my students and I are requesting will help bring more movement into our classroom through active seating options that will encourage students to engage their core and improve their balance while they work.

My students have complained many times about their chairs not being comfortable and asked for more options for seating.

I asked other teachers what they were using to provide options for their classes. Hokki stools and stability cushions were the two items that got the best feedback. I was able to borrow one Hokki stool from our school counselor and it was a major hit! My students had to take turns using it, but they all loved sitting on it and asked me if I could get one for each of them.

The Hokki stools and stability cushions I am requesting on my students' behalf will help me bring my students more movement. The stability cushions can be used on their chairs to provide movement while they sit at their desks and can also be used to work on their balance when standing up. The Hokki stools require students to engage their core to balance the stools while they sit. This project will go a long way to meeting my students' request of having a Hokki stool for everyone!
