I work as a Title I Reading Teacher in a rural, central Illinois community. Our school services students in grade K-5.
Our school has a warm, nurturing environment, where the teachers know the students by name and the students likewise know the teachers, even when the student is not in a teacher's class.
The majority of our students are now attending the same school as their parents. Our school may be a small, but our size gives the school a family feel.
My Project
As a Title 1 Reading Teacher, I am responsible for finding interventions that can be used for all of our struggling students in kindergarten through fifth grade. The intervention groups that I am responsible for range from learning alphabet letters and sounds to building fluency and reading comprehension. This is a challenge, since most of our current interventions are dated or have been used multiple times on the same students. Each student learns differently and I need to have additional interventions and strategies that I can use.
By attending this workshop, I will have the opportunity to learn about interventions and strategies that will be new to me as well as my students.
The strategies that I pick up from this workshop will be able to be used by my future students.
