This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are from homes where the challenges of devices, internet and a quiet place to work are real. Many of the parents are essential workers who are trying to do their job and support their child's education. They have borrowed a device and are working at getting their device connected to the internet. Many of them are having a difficult time finding websites and connecting to the meeting platform. They are doing their best.
The students join the daily class meeting.
They attempt to find resources on my Class Padlet. They are using educational programs to review what they have learned thus far. I am encouraging them during these meetings to use technology.
My Project
Kids love magnets! Kids love manipulating things! Kids love creating! These tangrams can be used and re-used to create over and over. Geometry will come so much easier throughout the grades because they used this time at home playing with shapes. When we have our distance learning class meetings, we can show off the creations that they have designed in their time at home. Creating and then describing are skills that all kindergarten students are developing. This gives them many opportunities to practice these skills and share them with others.
