Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
I teach 21 First Graders in a Dual Language Setting. Many of my students do not speak Spanish and are learning a second language. My students attend a Title 1 school which is racially and economically diverse. Every student qualifies for free breakfast and lunch. My students are young 6 year old's that are excited and nervous about learning a second language. It is essential to provide STEM projects that allow them to engage and captivate their learning experience on a daily basis.
My students will be equipped with STEM-based manipulatives that align with the major math standards.
These resources will offer numerous opportunities for students to concentrate on problem-solving, apply their knowledge to real-world situations, foster critical thinking skills, enhance scientific literacy, and empower the future generation of innovators.
Supporting students will enable them to cultivate their passion for education, as well as facilitate their ability to collaborate, create, and enjoy the learning process.
This will be done by establishing a STEM-focused classroom that will contribute to the development of a favorable, interactive, and suitable educational setting for my first-grade students. This initiative will enrich their learning experience and facilitate a smoother transition into school life for our young learners.
As their teacher, my goal is to foster their curiosity and love of learning while using hands on activities, I will help engage student learning both physically and cognitively.
