My class is a class of 32 enthusiastic learners who come from a variety of cultures and backgrounds. The majority of my students receive free or reduced price lunch and many of them have already experienced homelessness at one point in their lives. Our classroom is our home away from home. We all come together as a community for lessons and fun activities. However, our resources are limited. We are in need of tools to help meet the needs of each individual learner in our classroom.
In our classroom, we are one big family and we are part of a larger school community.
Some students struggle with daily academic skills, especially those students who find traditional learning activities difficult or who are learning English as their second language. This year, our school is starting a STEM initiative through the use of project based learning opportunities. This will help the students to grow their problem solving skills in a hands-on way with real-world experiences. It will help them to build their cooperative learning skills and become outside the box thinkers. My students need the option of fun, alternative activities and lessons to support their learning styles.
My Project
In our classroom, my students love math! They enjoy working with manipulatives to make sense of numbers and work collaboratively with their peers to problem solve. Our class is in need of ETA Hand2Mind's daily number talk kits to help them build their fact fluency and comprehension skills. In our class, we utilize guided math rotations to meet students where they are at and focus on building their math skills.
Daily Number talks will help my students learn from one another and build their fact fluency in an exciting and collaborative way.
By talking about numbers and discussing their problem solving steps, students will set themselves up to be successful mathematical thinkers and problem solvers! You + 3rd Grade Mathematicians = Success!
