Talk To The Neuron: Neuroscience Tools For Tomorrow's Neuroscientists!
Help me give my students a Backyard Brains toolbox with kits such as the Neuron Spikerbox and Heart and Brain Spikerbox to study neurons, their own muscles, and do experiments to understand how nervous systems work.

it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
The brain is the most complex organ we possess, with over 85 billion neurons and potentially trillions of connections between them. Investigating how our brains function is much different than studying other organs like the heart or skin. Other organs can be dissected or placed under a microscope and their functions are not hard to see. The functioning brain though requires specialized tools to record activity of those neurons and their connections to our muscles.
I am asking for affordable, user-friendly kits from Backyard Brains called Spikerboxes: affordable tools designed by neuroscientists and engineers for students to observe the functioning of neurons and muscles.
I am fascinated by how much we still need to learn about the functioning of our brains, and I want to give my students the tools they need to answer real questions like "What is the difference in reaction time between our eyes and our hands?" and "How fast do a musician's muscles move compared to an athlete's?"
With this box of neuroscience kits, we can attach electrodes to our own muscles and record real data. Neuroscience is the career of the next century, and I want my students to learn how to DO neuroscience so they can see themselves as neuroscientists. The neurological disorder cured tomorrow starts with their experiences today. We cannot do it without your help!
