My Students

My students are hardworking and passionate, and they come to class everyday eager to learn and create. My students go to a title I school and many are on free and reduce lunch. They live in a neighborhood where housing has become ridiculously expansive. For the past few years, enrollment has been on sharp decline as students and families are priced out of their homes in Daly City.

It's difficult to build school community and positive climate when there is a frequent exodus of students and families in our neighborhood.

However, I hope to make the most of my students' middle school years by creating a fun, interactive, and engaging science curriculum! They will plan out ideas, build things, make mistakes, and -finally- learn and grow from these experiences. We will learn the art of continuously improving through our failures. That is the essence of science.

My Project

Every teacher has spent much of their personal time planning for the next lesson, prepping for the next lab activity, or grading papers. On average, I spend about 3-4 hours a day simply planning the next day's lesson, which includes PowerPoints, creating worksheets, and/or researching and creating online activities that would engage and deepen my students' understanding of science. With my trusty MacBook Pro, this has been the song and dance the last 9 years of my teaching career and I've enjoyed every minute of planning that would bring out smiles, excitements, and laughter in learning.

Coming school year will be my 10th year teaching.

And the MacBook I have used since my very first year of teaching is unfortunately, giving out. Now, I am in need of a fast, powerful, and reliable laptop to continue designing lessons that will engage my students. The new laptop will allow me to lesson plan more efficiently, creating engaging and hands-on activities for units such as Genetics and Evolution. The laptop will allow me to record my daily science lessons and upload it online to help students who need extra help. It will let me host review activities on sites such as Kahoot and Quizizz before an upcoming assessment. Overall, with a new powerful laptop, I will be able to plan my lessons more efficiently, giving my students the necessary skills and knowledge to be ready for high school science!
