This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Have you ever heard a story or read a book that you simply cannot forget? My students love to listen to stories and read books themselves.
I teach 17 enthusiastic and eager kindergarteners at a Title I Reading First School.
They are anxious to not only learn to read, but to read well. Many of my students struggle with listening and reading comprehension. We have only 2 student computers which makes it difficult for all students to have an opportunity to listen to reading each day. We have been fortunate to receive funding for three tablets to use in our classroom. Five students will be able to listen to reading at the same time; however, our classroom does not have many fiction and non-fiction stories to listen to using the technology present in our classroom. .
My Project
We have only 2 student computers which makes it difficult for all students to have an opportunity to listen to reading each day. Although, we have been fortunate to receive funding for three tablets to use in our classroom, my students are still limited to the amount and variety of fiction and non-fiction text that they can listen to and read. A 30 user subscription to Speakaboos will bring stories to students who are able to use our student computers and tablets during literacy centers.
Having Speakaboo stories available for my students to use daily, I will not have to worry about whether there are enough resources to use with the technology available in our classroom.
My students will be eager to listen to the stories. Learning will become immediate and long lasting. My students will be so engaged that they will not realize that they are learning. Donations towards this project will greatly improve learning and create academic independence in our kindergarten classroom.
