My students love listening to read aloud stories and have a love of reading. A large number of students come to 2nd grade below grade level and have very little support at home to help them catch up. My goal is to keep their love of reading going and allow them to feel successful.
My students love to learn!
They also love to listen to stories being read to them. Our school is a very high poverty school with the majority of our kids coming from low-income families. Many students do not have much home support because their parents either work or are not in their lives. We also have many students who live with grandparents or other relatives. In many cases our students come to school without the supplies that they need or any funds to get them.
My Project
In my classroom I would love to be able to get rid of our current basal reading series and move to a more personalized approach to reading instruction. These books will allow me to do this and let my students dig deeper into quality literature and work on their comprehension skills more effectively.
Your donation will improve my classroom by making the students feel more successful, dive deeper into the books, improve their comprehension skills, and allow them to learn and grow in their reading without frustration.
It will allow me to instill a love of reading in my students that will hopefully carry on for years to come. These resources will also allow me to introduce my students to author's works that they otherwise may have never seen.
