Fourth graders are always full of excitement for learning.
Parents, teachers, and administrators are all part of a large support system in our school. We all go the extra mile to help each student that comes through our doors to be successful. My students come from various backgrounds and ability levels. When my students enter my classroom, some of them are fluent readers and love to read while others are struggling readers who dislike reading. Research shows that reading trade books aloud to readers targets audio learners, builds vocabulary, and improves reading process skills. Most importantly, research states that reading aloud to children motivates students to read more!
Your support of my project will allow me to reach each of my fourth graders so that I can continue to encourage them to thrive as learners in engaging ways.
My Project
My colleagues and I try to find ways to approach all students in a way that will help them learn so that they can be successful students. Students need engaging ways to learn how to read, comprehend information from a variety of genres, and expand their vocabulary.
With your help, I can give my students a wide variety of literature to introduce and reinforce 4th-grade reading skills.
My plan is to use these books to introduce difficult reading skills through engaging storylines before moving on to more complex texts that may seem overwhelming to struggling readers. Many times, students discover a new author or series of books they enjoy after listening to one of the trade books and/or chapter books I have used to teach a reading skill during class. With these new books, 4th-grade students will be able to enjoy a variety of books for years to come.
