My students are wonderfully talented, smart, hardworking 4th graders. They love getting on the computers to research topics we are learning about, to do activities to help with their reading and math and to take AR tests. Anytime they can dive into an activity to make learning everyday skills more engaging and fun, they jump at it. However, our school is a Title I school, and our funding for technology and other resources is very limited.
The town I teach in just became a city not too long ago (so you know it's kind of a small place).
However, we are about 15 miles from a large county where lots of our tax dollars are spent, not benefiting our students or schools. Over half of the students I teach are recipients of free or reduced-price lunches. The school is very old but well-kept. The students are proud of the school they attend and value their education. This is, in part, because of amazing parent and community involvement. The 19 fourth grade students I teach may face setbacks others have not, but they are determined to succeed, motivated to learn, and eager to overcome any challenge.
My Project
My classroom was blessed with enough donations for each student to be able to have their own tablets to use daily in class. However, we currently do not have a safe, secure place to store and charge our tablets at the end of each day.
The mailbox storage system would allow my students to have a safe, secure place to store and charge their tablets each day to make sure they stay in working order.
I try to teach my students responsibility each day. My students currently fear that they will break their tablets when they store them in their cubby holders. I believe that having a new, safe place to store their tablets would give them a sense of security and would allow them to practice responsibility on an individual level.
