This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

The purpose of this project is to raise awareness of mental health and encourage our school community to speak out when their mental health takes a downturn. Ever since the pandemic, stress levels have been through the roof. Students and staff are different because of it and it's becoming harder to cope with the daily struggles they face. Schedules are tight and they feel overwhelmed with the workload and the little time to get it done. Anxiety levels are high and more and more students ask to leave the classroom to speak to a guidance counselor to get a breather. We want to address the problem of mental health in our school by giving students and staff a place where they can escape from the craziness of the school day. This break room would offer a relaxing environment that would offer some snacks or drinks, but more than anything it would be a quiet escape from the busy school day. It would be decorated in neutral colors and have lots of green and natural colors that would promote calmness and increase the overall mental health in our school. The walls would be welcoming and the neon sign would be an extra special touch!

The materials requested would enable the school community to come together to address the problems we have been facing and the lack of morale at our school.

It would enable students to use their voices to spread awareness and their hands to put together this safe space in our school to solve the problems we're facing.

After students use the supplies requested to set up the room, they will get the word out so everyone knows about the new change and help others feel excited about the endless possibilities this new break room would provide!
