My Students

I am a second grade teacher at Lanier Primary School. I teach in a Title I School. "The art of teaching is the art of assisting discovery." -Mark Van Doren

I am currently in my 8th year of teaching.

I taught 1st grade for the first 6 years in a very affluent school setting. I transferred within the county to a Title I school two years ago. With that transfer came a change in grade levels. I am currently teaching 2nd grade and loving every minute of it! Moving to a Title I school has been an eye-opening experience. I love being able to share a lot of firsts with my students. Often times, I have to remind myself that these students do not have a lot of prior experiences that one would assume that a 2nd grader would have been exposed to. I have my gifted endorsement and am currently working on my Masters degree. I love watching the light bulb come on for my students as they grasp a new concept and could not envision myself doing anything else! I want to prepare my students for the rigorous and evolving demands of the 21st century through dynamic, hands-on, make and take lessons.

My Project

I expect to learn practical and effective strategies for teaching second graders by addressing issues that are important right now like classroom technology and how to harness it most effectively or how to align my practice with the standards while giving our students the tools they need to succeed. I will be learning how to prepare my students for the 21st century through dynamics, hands-on, make and take lessons. I will be learning innovative ways to build independence and higher-level thinking among all students. This conference will help me learn powerful techniques to help strengthen students' emotional, social, cognitive and physical development. In addition, I will build on my professional network by meeting colleagues, exchanging ideas, and creating meaningful connections with educators I can connect with long after the conference.

This conference provides me with the opportunity to learn from top-quality teaching experts and classroom practitioners who stay abreast of cutting-edge research, new challenges, important issues, and developing trends, and who are genuinely committed to improving the teaching and learning in our classrooms.

I strongly believe my participation in this program fits with our school's objectives, and it will strengthen my professional learning, allowing me to return to school with new strategies.
