We live in a fast-paced world, where students are expected to keep up at all costs. It can be hard to get students to meet the outside expectations, but one way to ease them towards success is through technology.
I teach a mixed classroom of fifth graders.
The class is composed of General Ed students, Formers English Language Learners, and current English Language Learners. The variety of cultures in my classroom is expansive; my students represent countries from all over South and Central America, the Caribbean Islands, across the Asian continent, and Europe.
My Project
I hope to use the NOOKs to assist my lower level readers. I plan to have them practice their fluency with the use of the NOOKs and the headsets. Studies show that through the development of fluency in reading, students will be able to gain higher comprehension in texts. Some of my students are far below grade-level in reading and I want them to have access to multiple ways of building their reading comprehension.
With the use of the NOOKs and headsets, I know that there will be a great improvement in the reading comprehension of my lower level readers.
My students will be able to attain reading comprehension closer to the expectations set upon students of their age.
