This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Students at ASEEC are beginning their education journey. We provide our students with a safe and engaging learning environment. We are a public school that accommodates 105 general and special education students. Our students come from a diverse community. The program eligibility is based on parents attending an education program or working. All of the students receive free breakfast, lunch, and a snack. Our school is privileged to have a Nature Explore outdoor classroom. The outdoor classroom offers children opportunities for explorations big and small.

For many of the students, this is their first time in school and we want to make it a positive start to their educational journey for a lifetime of learning.

We are the students' first teachers at my school and we have the privilege of starting them on their passion for learning.

My Project

Teaching students mindful breathing techniques will provide them with a practical skill that will be with them for their life. The books and breathing props well help the students relax and breathe. These products will provide me, my coworkers, and parents with the skills, resources, and confidence to incorporate and teach practical mindful breathing techniques to the children.

Many of the students at my school are facing stress and anxiety due to the coronavirus pandemic and mindfulness breathing can be a resource to help them recover.

Breathing is a learning tool that will help calm students down and reduce their anxiety and stress, which reduces negative student behaviors. From my past experiences, when I used mindful breathing activities in the classroom, my students were calmer, relaxed, and more focused on their learning.
