My Students
The students I work with are amazing, kind souls who are pulled from diverse backgrounds and socioeconomic statuses. Our school contains many fantastic programs within the building, including a pre-k, a charter high school, and two intensive special needs programs, all of which assist in building our students' empathy, compassion, and character.
All of these kiddos have been through a lot over the last couple of years with the entire world being shaken up and shattered, but they all handled the struggles and big issues like champs and pushed through with school pride and great courage, now it's time to help heal the trauma.
With the current state of the world and the hecticness of the past couple of years, I am concerned for my students' mental and emotional health along with their physical needs. We have great support systems in the building but it can often be hard for anyone to speak up when they are struggling. The funds used from this project will help provide gifts for students and student necessities they may feel too uncomfortable to ask for (breakfast foods, snacks, deodorant, feminine hygiene products, etc).
My Project
I am dedicated to providing students with what they need in the least awkward way possible. With these items I can do that! The fidget toys will help my ADHD, fidgety, and anxious learners release some energy while they learn, as will the wobble seats. Another great item to assist anxious or fidgety students in learning is weights. Something about having that extra resistance really seems to help my more chatty students focus inward and forward. The food will provide nutrients for students who didn't get a chance to eat that day or are just hungry from the activities of the day. Middle school is known for its struggles with hygiene so that is supported here as well with different products. Lastly I collected a few items to share with my students that will just bring them joy. Rubber ducks have become a staple in my classroom and they always get my students excited and in a more positive headspace!
