Take the Phone Away and Read the News!

Help me give my students a real magazine to put in their hands! Upfront is an excellent way to get students to read informational text and to have them read real news that affect them!

My Project

Upfront News are great informational text magazines to use as secondary materials in the classroom. The articles are informative and help students understand the world around them!

I would like to use these resources for supplementary materials whether it is to add to a lesson/skill/ or big idea that we are working on or to use to fill in the gap when I have a few minutes left in class.

I want them to stay off of their phones as much as possible and learn to read materials without other distractions.

My students are 9th graders where they are still “babies” but growing into those teenagers who are beginning to make decisions and mature. I want to provide them with extra challenging materials to help them think for themselves and outside of the box.

The joy of this is that while we are reading interesting material, they are learning to apply the reading skills and analytical thinking during the process.
